Dear Buddha,

On this auspicious day of Vesak, I thank you deeply for showing us the way to find ultimate happiness so that we can help everyone to attain it as well. This would definitely include those I love and those who have made me a better person. It is with such a grateful heart that I thank my mother for this precious life.

Though I only had less than 2 good years with Mamee, her love is found in her sisters as well as my beloved GUMA (paternal aunt).

During this circuit breaker, their love is even more evident! I found myself nursing a sprained back. Here’s a photo gallery of just some of the things that I am so thankful for to have my beloved aunts.

Worried about my back, they bought me a trolley bag which will be extremely handy after the circuit breaker ends.

In my intense moments of ailment after this year’s CNY, they came to me with all types of relief and weekly accompanied trips to TCM. So much worry for me that I know it pains them to see me in pain. I am so sorry.

During this period, my 3rd aunt has never cooked so many different varieties of vegetarian meals since she became vegetarian herself for many years. Just to keep this niece, a new lacto-ovo vegetarian, satisfied and happy.

With only good ideas of how to have a good meal, she is happy to rely on me to suggest the menu of the day. Here are some of our joint projects. Thanks for making me so happy.

Fourth aunt, living above third aunt in their HDB, never fails to surprise us with new recipes she finds online. She will then whip up a dish or two in 2 styles: non-vegetarian and vegetarian for the family members whom she loves dearly but have different meal preferences.

5th Aunt and Guma who are living some distance away would stay connected with frequent calls since we all have to stay home. With Whats app and Zoom we only got to see more of 5th aunt visually too. We even had two birthday zoom parties of a series of birthday songs in Cantonese, Mandarin and English for the Apr and May babies in the family. No fancy cakes or presents, just genuine love, warm smiles and songs of blessings.

With so much to be thankful for, I pray to the Triple Gem and dedicate all virtuous deeds done on this auspicious day to my aunts as well as our mothers of infinite lives to have continuous lives of leisure and opportunities so as to learn the pure Dharma and achieve ultimate happiness. May you all be healthy and happy!

Filial Piety towards our Mothers

Accumulate Merits through  Sangha & Light Offering
This year we’ll probably celebrate Mother’s Day in quarantine.

To stay close to your Mother, you can do a Mother’s Day Special Offering to Buddha and Bodhisattvas for her.

This will bestow divine blessings for her health and well-being. What better way to show your love and filial piety then making this offering as a gift for your beloved Mother.
