PART 1 OF 2 – UNITED IN OUR ULIMATE GOAL OF HAPPINESS AS WE WALK THE BODHISATTVAS’ WAY
2017 Master’s Remembrance Day (MRD)
For a few weeks during our Buddhist class, S15G027E had Pre-MRD sharings on our noble Master Venerable Jih-Chang’s aspirations, practice, teachings and merits.
And today, 9th Oct 2017, we embarked on the Gratitude Project – “Holding on to You Always” as part of the build-up to the main event!
The 2017 MRD theme is “UNITED IN OUR ULIMATE GOAL OF HAPPINESS AS WE WALK THE BODHISATTVAS’ WAY”.
While participating in this Gratitude Project, we were encouraged to have pure motivation and:
1. reflect upon our faith and show gratitude towards Buddha and our lineage masters;
2. Observe the Merits and Appreciate the Kindness (OMAK) of Buddha and lineage masters for their compassionate virtuous deeds aimed at benefiting all sentient beings and changing our lives for the better;
3. chant the names of Buddhas or Bodhisattvas or
4. aspire to follow Buddha and our lineage masters for infinite lives in the learning of Buddha’s teaching till we attain the state of Buddhahood.
Here are the sharings of our classmates, monitors, co-monitors, care-coordinators:
Monitor, Tiong Boon’s sharing:
The learners in my Monday Bilingual Buddhist class were full of zest and creativity last night. Originally, our plan was to use 30-45mins of our lesson to make the MRD hand prints but the activity took more than an hour to complete!
Luckily, it was completed with a lot of joy and meaningful aspirations inscribed on the combined class banner.
As the class has not covered the “Path of Persons of Great Capacity”, I helped them to add-on my little ‘footprints’ inscribed with “菩提心” and “空正见”, ‘thought’ of renunciation, a ‘radiant’ sun and ‘warm’ hearts representing the “Spirit of Enlightenment”. 😊
I believe that Master Venerable Jih-Chang and our lineage masters will be very pleased to know that we are happily learning Lamrim and accumulating merits on this path guided by them with immense gratitude to our Teachers and the 3 Jewels. What better way to accumulate merits than to do virtuous acts that pleases the Teacher!- 认真学广论、欢喜学广论、坚持学广论！💪😊🙏
“Furthermore, by respecting and serving your teachers you exhaust karma whose effects you would otherwise experience in the miserable realms. Your action of serving the teacher expends these miserable effects and replaces them with only slight harm to your body and mind in this lifetime, either in actuality or in dreams. In addition, the benefits of respecting and serving your teachers are tremendous, such as a collection of virtue which surpasses even the roots of virtue that you derive from making offerings to limitless Buddhas, and so forth. ” Lamrim Pg 88 L19-27
Co-Monitor, Serena with Brother Eng Cheong:
Tonight, our Buddhist Class: S15G027E exhibited our spirit of unity to make imprints for the 2017 MRD. It is such a success. We started from nothing but conceptualised peace doves and sunflower as our symbols. The peace doves represent our aspiration to soar towards our ultimate goal of happiness in the direction of the sunflower which symbolises our lineage masters who have attainment!
Everyone’s face lighted up with joy and gratitude, aspiring to hold tightly unto our lineage masters in our path to attain enlightenment. Personally, I felt that Master Venerable Jih-Chang views each of us as his precious only child. He will tirelessly find each and very one of his lost child. Thus, I vowed to follow and practice well until I attain buddhahood so as to save all sentient beings.
Yao Hua’s sharing:
Flying together with our 师父与传承师长 on the path of enlightenment.
Gratitude for their compassion to search for us in our cyclic existence and bring us back to walk the path of enlightenment.
Dear Buddha, Lineage Masters and Master Venerable Jih-Chang,
Thank you for your guidance on our path towards enlightenment.
May we all achieve Buddhahood and save all sentient beings.

Poh Jee’s sharing:
Together we fly
Like a flock of birds, we look upon you,
in the gentle rays of the golden sun.
Under your guidance, together we grew,
wings of wisdom and compassion,
feathers of strength and heart of faith.
Like the sunflower that chases the sun, without a doubt,
we spread our wings.
Leaving our nests of afflictions, against the wind, we shall fly.
Against all odds, yes we must,
with courage mustered, we will soar,
over great lands of countless time.
O’ what a beautiful rainbow, someone cried.
O’ what a beautiful rainbow, do you see?
As we fly towards you, my teacher, in loving memories.
/-written by Poh Jee, in gratitude and loving memories of Master Jih-Chang/
I aspire to be moved by the great force of compassion to propagate the Dharma to benefit and create blissfulness amongst all sentient beings.
In all places where Buddhism has yet to flourish or it had flourished but has now been weakened, may I aspire to be moved by the great force of
compassion to propagate the Dharma to benefit and create blissfulness amongst all sentient beings.
