“What changes did you observed in yourself before and after taking the weekly Buddhism classes?”

I was asked this question 3 times by our friendly interviewers during separate events organised by BW Monastery and I always had trouble replying them.

During my work trip early this year to Japan (this is my 3rd visit to Japan in a span of 3 years), I guess the change in me became too obvious for me to miss.

I stopped watching TV for the whole month because I decided to put a folder containing photos of the Buddha and Master Ri-Chang right in front of the TV.

In the past, i would spend every night watching Japanese variety shows. Personally, I found Japanese variety shows interesting and they kept me glued to the screen although I did not understand Japanese.

During my 6 weeks in Japan this year, most of my weekdays were spent reading “The Life of Milarepa” (after constant reminders by Monitor Tiong Boon for a year) and weekends watching live telecast of Dharma Discourses.

Instead of going for sightseeing in other parts of Japan, I decided to visit The Great Buddha of Kamakura. Not once but twice. I will share more in a separate post in the future.

I hope that those who are taking Buddhist classes are able to take some time to notice the subtle changes in yourself and give yourself a pat on the back. We need to acknowledge our personal victories to continue to walk on this path of Happiness.
